M2M stands for “Machine-to-Machine” communications and is about enabling the flow of data between remote machines and a back-end IT infrastructure over a network. The transfer of data can be bidirectional:
- To uplink and collect metering, product and usage information from the machine or device;
or downlink to send instructions or software updates, or to monitor and control equipment remotely.
